Wednesday night it was announced that House Democrats and Republicans had reached a power sharing agreement over leadership of the Minnesota House of Representatives. House DFL Leader Rep. Melissa Hortman announced some of the details of the deal in a press conference on Thursday morning.

Shortly after the DFL press conference House Republicans held their own conference to discuss the agreement, and Speaker Lisa Demuth shared some details of the deal that House Republicans are pleased about, which includes GOP control of the House Fraud Prevention and Agency Oversight Committee.

DFL Floor Leader Rep. Jamie Long clarified that this deal requires full bi-partistanship from both sides, and made it clear that no bill will move forward in the house without bi-partistan support.

Speaker Demuth spoke more on the deal, and made it clear that this deal is  not the same deal that’s been offered by the DFL in the past, and she explained what concessions were made.

Demuth will be the first Female African American Speaker of the House in Minnesota History.
