Minnesota House GOP Leadership set 2025 priorities
The Minnesota House GOP Caucus set their 2025 and 2026 Legislative Priorities ahead of the 2025 Legislative Session, which is set to begin next week. The House GOP currently claims that they have a majority in the House despite only having 67 seats (68 needed for a majority) because Curtis Johnson was found to be in breach of the residency requirement after winning his election in November. Speaker-designate Rep. Lisa Demuth said one priority of the House GOP is to “Stop Funding fraud”, and establish a committee with the purpose to do so.
Rep. Demuth said it will also be a priority for the GOP to make living more affordable by repealing the tax on social security, as well as make Minnesota more safe by “holding criminals accountable.”
GOP House Leader Rep. Harry Niska said other GOP priorities are to raise education standards, spend tax money wisely, and permit reform.
Shortly after the GOP Press Conference, House DFL leaders held a press conference to respond to the GOP press conference. During the conference Speaker-designate Rep. Melissa Hortman called for bipartisanship, and denied the GOP’s majority claim.
The 94th Minnesota legislative session convenes on Tuesday, January 14 at Noon.
