MPCA Fines American Crystal Sugar $16,000
ST. PAUL, MN—The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has fined American Crystal Sugar $16,000 for failing to collect fecal samples in wastewater on two separate occasions last year. This took place at American Crystal Sugar’s Moorhead facility. An inspection by the Pollution Control Agency found the Moorhead facility also failed to stop discharging wastewater when fecal sample results showed they exceeded their limits on five separate days in 2024. The Pollution Control Agency also found American Crystal Sugar’s East Grand Forks facility exceeded their fecal sample limit on two separate days last year.
