Multiple GOP Amendments fail to be included in Higher Education Supplemental Budget Bill
The Minnesota House of Representatives debated the Higher Education Supplemental Bill and multiple GOP sponsored amendments failed to be amended. One amendment that failed would’ve dropped the University of Minnesota System DEI Program. Representative Peggy Scott argued in favor of the bill and claimed that this program is outdated and no longer does what it was intended to do.
House Republicans also tried to get the Intellectual Freedom Act amended to the bill, but that failed as well. Bill author Representative Harry Niska gives a rundown of the bill.
The final Higher Education Amendment that failed to get the necessary support was a bill authored by Representative Elliot Engen that would cancel the recognition of college organizations who endorse terrorist organizations.
The bill failed to move forward after the speaker of the house ruled the amendment as not germane.
