Norman County Awaits Bids & Bond Rating to Move Forward with New Highway Department Building

Ada, MN — The proposed new Norman County Highway Department building is another step closer to becoming a reality, however there are still factors at play that can derail the project. The Norman County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing for the roughly $9.6 million building bond, and as there was no public comment, went ahead with requesting bids for the facility. Norman County residents do have up until February 4th to petition for a reverse referendum and would need 174 signatures to stop the process.

The next step is for the county to open bids for the project and issue the sale of bonds. Those two factors, the bids and their bond rating, are the perhaps the biggest variables in the whole process. Norman County Commissioner Steve Jacobson says they could easily put a hold on the project.

The Norman County Board of Commissioners will open bids for the new Highway Department building on February 8th. If they are acceptable, the board would move forward with authorizing the sale of bonds at their February 17th meeting.  The county bond rating would be presented at the March 17th meeting and at that point could make a final decision to move forward or not.
