Opposition To Proposed Dairy Near Hillsboro
HILLSBORO, ND—Over two dozen people attended a community meeting in Hillsboro Thursday night about the proposed Herberg Dairy that would be built near Hillsboro. The meeting was organized by Dakota Resource Council, a group that says it “protects rural communities from undesirable growth.” Speakers from the Council claim Riverview Dairy, the company that would build the dairy, only wanted to build in North Dakota to avoid Minnesota’s tough pollution standards and that the new dairy would create a great deal of pollution. North Dakota State Representative Mike Beltz gave his thoughts on the presentation.
Halstad Mayor Darin Johnson, whose community is across the Red River from the proposed dairy, said what he heard was a bunch of scare tactics.
Thursday’s community meeting was the first by a group opposed to building the new dairy. Most of the public’s response has been positive.
