Protect yourself from scams
Scams tend to become more common during the holidays, but the threat of them is prevalent all year round. When it comes to protecting yourself from scams there are a number of things you can do to protect yourself. Kyle Larson of Frandsen Bank and Trust in Ada says the best thing you can do is to simply slow down, and remember the phrase “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t.”
Larson says there’s also a stigma that only the elderly can be scammed, but he says it’s important for young people to realize that those statements are not true and that it can happen to anyone.
If you believe you are a victim of a scam, Larson walks us through the first couple steps you should take, so that you can minimize or avoid fraudulent activity being done with your identity or accounts.
People should also report scams to local law enforcement so that they can warn the rest of the community.
