Fertile, MN — Anyone can make a connection and make a difference to help save a life and the City of Fertile wants to make sure community members have the training to help do so. In partnership with Aluma, the HOPE Coalition, and the NW8 Adult Mental Health Initiative, a safeTALK training in suicide alertness skills will be offered on Wednesday, August 10th from 8:30am until 12:30pm at the Fertile Community Center.

SafeTALK is a suicide prevention training course with TALK standing for Tell, Ask, Listen, and Keep Safe. This free training course will offer increased knowledge about suicide and participants will learn the four basic steps to create a life-saving connection. They will also gain the confidence to talk about suicide and related issues and improved ability to intervene with someone at risk.

In July, the Fertile City Council passed a resolution encouraging community members to attend this training. Mayor Dan Wilken stated that pretty much all of us have seen family or friends take their own lives in recent years and wish we could have done something about it.

Fertile City Administrator Lisa Liden says it may be unique for a city to be so involved in a difficult conversation such as suicide, but it speaks to their caring community who wants to their part in helping others get through their difficult times.

A light breakfast will be provided. To register for safeTalk, email Shannon.abrahamson@allumacares.org or Fertile City Administrator Lisa Liden at fertile@gvtel.com.
