Senate Lawmakers Clash over Safe Storage of Firearms Bill 

The Senate Finance Committee held a meeting regarding SF 4312 which centers around the safe gun storage law that would hand out harsher sentences if a gun owner does not properly store their firearm. Bill Author Heather Gustafson (DFL – Vadnais Heights) explains how her bill would work. 

Senator Eric Pratt (R-Prior Lake) spoke against this bill saying it “will make felons out of law abiding citizens” and does “not have the support of Minnesota law enforcement organizations.” 

After hearing more arguments from members of the committee the Senate Finance Committee passed the bill to its next step in the senate by a vote of five to four.
