State Emblems Redesign Commission chooses new Minnesota State Flag
The Minnesota State Emblems Redesign Commission met on Tuesday morning and have officially chosen the final design for the next flag of Minnesota!
The final design is a modified version of the submission known as F1953, and includes the conceptual shape of Minnesota in dark blue and the rest of the flag in light blue. The flag has a single eight-pointed star pointed north on the shape of Minnesota.
The Commission also voted for a modification to the state seal. Commissioners approved changing the number of yellow bars around the outer ring of the seal to 98, representing Minnesota’s 87 counties and 11 federally-recognized tribal nations.
The Commission will meet virtually on Wednesday, December 27th at 9:00 am to discuss its final report. The new flag will be submitted to the legislature before the January 1 deadline.
