Traill County Sheriff Suggests County-Wide Summit on Stray Dogs
The Hillsboro City Commission met in regular session Monday.
Traill County Sheriff, Steve Hunt, addressed the commission on the ongoing stray dog conversation. Hunt suggested a county-wide summit of representatives from each city to create solutions and discuss how to unify other ordinance discrepancies. Hunt also informed the commission that his staff continues to reach out to other shelters to help ease the burden on the county.
On the city side, the commission continues to mull a 72-hour holding ordinance for any stray animals collected. They also discussed improving their database of information on animal tags, licenses, and vaccinations. City Auditor, Casey Eggermont, explains how residents can register their pets.
In other action items, City Engineer, Steve Swanson, briefly presented the finalized storm water master plan. Swanson encouraged the commission to adopt standards to pass along to residents. No formal action was taken on the presentation as further review is needed. The commission also had lengthy discussions on snow removal on city sidewalks in commercial zones, specifically downtown. The commission set rates for any snow removal by city staff to $100 per hour and $50 per additional half hour.
Other approved action items included the purchase of two transformers for just under $20,000 and the first reading of minor revisions for the Hillsboro Fire and Rescue sales tax ordinance.
