Veterans Suicide: What are the signs, and what you can do to help?
The American Psychological Association says that veterans in the United States are 1.5 times more likely to die by suicide when compared to their non-veteran counterparts, and the Brady Oberg Foundation (BOLF) has made it their goal to help bring the number of veteran suicides down. One thing you can do as a friend or family member of a veteran is to be aware of the signs that vets may show when they’re dealing with mental health issues. BOLF Executive Director Tracy Dunham tells us some of the signs of struggling that you can be on the lookout for.
Discussing suicide is a difficult thing for both parties, and Dunham explained how you as a friend of love one can approach a veteran who may be showing these signs.
The Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation also has ways to help veterans, and Dunham tells us how they approach veterans mental health.
Finally Dunham shared a message for veterans out there who are struggling with suicidal thoughts, and other mental health issues.
