Naytahwaush, MN — The Waubun Wildlife Club invites anglers to their annual Fishing Derby on South Twin Lake this Saturday, January 29th from Noon to 3pm. The derby, which is held in conjunction with the Mahnomen Area Sportsman’s Club’s Kids Fishing Derby, is a longstanding tradition that dates back decades. Steve “Carrot” Paul of the Waubun Wildlife Club says while its mostly for fun, there are lots of prizes to be won!

The rules for the derby are pretty simple as well. You can fish anywhere on South Twin Lake and even from the comforts of your ice house if you would like.

Deep snow has made it difficult to get around on some area lakes, Paul says the local resort has done a good job recently of making it more accessible and weather this weekend looks favorable.

And while the goal of the derby is for people to take fish out of the lake, the purpose of this event is to help put more fish back in. Paul adds that all the proceeds from this fishing derby and their other fundraisers goes towards restocking area lakes.

Both the Waubun Wildlife Club Fishing Derby and Mahnomen Area Sportsman’s Club Fishing Derby are this Saturday, January 29th from Noon to 3pm on South Twin Lake.
