4-H Livestock Judge Shares the Ins and Outs of Judging.
The Norman County 4-H Shows continued this Friday with the cattle, sheep, goat, and alpaca shows taking place and the man judging the shows has become a familiar face to the Norman County Fair. Greg Harder has been judging livestock for over 40 years and has judged the Norman County 4-H show 10 times over his storied career. We had the opportunity to sit down with Greg and discuss his career and the inns and outs of being a judge.
There are many people and contestants who don’t know how judging works and Judge Harder shared how he judges an animal like a dairy or beef cow.
In the 4-H Livestock show there’s also a category called the showmanship show that also gets judged. Judge Harder describes how the showmanship divisions work and how it gets judged.
Over the years Judge Harder has judged thousands of animals and has seen many different kinds. Harder shares the strangest animal he has ever judged.
Harder also shared the best advice he could give to a kid who wants to compete in livestock shows.
The 4-H Livestock Show continues this Saturday, June 24 at the Norman County Fairgrounds with the poultry and rabbit show starting at 8:30 am.
