50th anniversary of Service Women’s ability to enroll in U.S. Federal Service Academies.
Tuesday, October 7, 2025, is the 50th anniversary of Service Women’s ability to
enroll in U.S. Federal Service Academies. The Brainerd VFW, at 309 South 6th
Street, will host a gathering starting at 5:30 PM to commemorate the brave
women of our Armed Forces. There will be a Nationwide ‘Virtual Zoom Toast’ at 6
PM to celebrate this milestone in U.S. History. Also, it’s Taco Tuesday from 5 to 7
pm at the VFW with menu options from $1.50 to $4.00. All women veterans, VFW
members or not, are invited to celebrate and honor the brave women of our
Armed Forces on Tuesday, October 7th starting at 5:30 pm. Details at:

History: It was on October 7, 1975, that President Gerald Ford signed Public Law
allowing open enrollment for women at all federal service academies, such as
the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S.
Naval Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and lastly the U.S. Merchant
