Brayden Wolfgram’s basket with 1.6 seconds to play gave Thompson a 60-57 upset victory over #2 Grafton Tuesday night in the North Dakota Class A Region 2 semifinals at Mayville State University.
The game started as though Grafton would run away and hide, as the Spoilers jumped to an 8-0 lead. Thompson would not only catch up but take a 24-18 lead after the Tommies scored the first nine points of the second quarter. Thompson would lead 27-24 at the half and 42-40 after three quarters.
The game had 13 lead changes and nine ties. Moving to the final minute, Thompson’s Drew Overby made two free throws to put the Tommies in front 56-55 with 34 seconds to play. On Thompson’s next possession, Wolfgram scored a layup to put Thompson back in front 58-57 with 1.6 seconds remaining. Overby led Thompson with 16 points and three steals; Gavin Krogstad scored 13 and Braden Tyce added 12.
