North Dakota Division B Boys Basketball State Tournament – Westhope-Newburg vs Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier

Westhope/Newburg and Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier went toe to toe in an ND Division B Boys Basketball State Tournament Quarterfinal, Thursday. Despite the final margin of victory being only six points, the Sioux led nearly the entire game, never trailing in a 67-61 victory.
The Sioux were on fire from the three-point line, knocking down a dozen during the game. The Sioux rode that three-point line to as much as a 16-point lead with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Rebels would quickly cut the lead to ten by the start of the fourth quarter. They outscored WN in the final eight minutes, but it wasn’t enough to replicate what the EKM girls did to open their state tournament.
Walker Braaten led Westhope/Newburg with a double-double 23 points and ten rebounds. Braden Bailey also added 18 for the Sioux. Jacob Nitschke led the Rebels, also with a double-double 22 points and 10 rebounds. Zeke Barnick added 19 and Austin Strobel 14 with ten rebounds for EKM.
The Sioux (24-2) meet Bowman County in the semifinals. EKM (22-5) will face Our Redeemer’s in a consolation semifinal.
