Fertile City Council Moves Forward With Projects
FERTILE, MN—The Fertile City Council voted to move ahead with two improvement projects at Monday’s Council meeting. The first was for an addition to the Nature Center building. Fertile City Administrator Lisa Liden:
Liden says the City of Fertile has obtained a $144,000 grant for the project. But that won’t cover the entire cost of $188,500. The City Council voted to move ahead on getting specs for the project.
The other proposal was from the Small Cities Development Program regarding issues with Fertile’s water pipes.
The affected areas are Blaine Street SE, Albert Avenue NW and the three dead ends at Jefferson Avenue, Albert Avenue and Peterson Avenue. The project is expected to cost $1.51 million. SCDP has put Fertile near the front of the list for getting a $600,000 grant—they’ll hear for sure some time in August. And it’s also possible to apply for a loan and grant of about $900,000 in the spring of 2025.
The Fertile City Council had little to say on the ongoing Fair Meadow Nursing Home controversy. Liden told the public there was “nothing new” regarding Cornerstone of Bagley’s interest in buying Fair Meadow. When audience members asked questions about the status of the Nursing Home Advisory Board and the temporary administrator allegedly saying there wouldn’t be an advisory board, the Council meeting was quickly adjourned.
