Ada-Borup-West at Mahnomen/Waubun

Ames Fassino pitched a five inning no-hitter and went 4 for 4 at the plate with two runs batted in as Ada-Borup-West defeated Mahnomen-Waubun 14-0 Friday in Mahnomen.

The sophomore righthander allowed just two baserunners, both in the fourth inning–one on an error and one on a walk.  Fassino struck out eight.  He’s the second Cougar pitcher to throw a no-hitter this season after Baron Odden pitched a five inning perfect game against Fosston on April 23.

The Cougars started quickly with four first inning runs, two more in the second, three in the fourth and five in the fifth.  Baron Odden went 1 for 3 with 2 rbi for Ada-Borup-West, while Cameron Spaeth and Austin McCraven both went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored.  The Cougars also stole eight bases in eight attempts.

Joe Slette took the loss for Mahnomen-Waubun (4-9).  He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits, nine runs (seven earned), six walks and one hit batter with one strikeout.

Ada-Borup-West is now 12-3 on the season.  The Cougars host West Marshall in a makeup game on Monday.
