Ada-Borup-West vs. Red Lake County
Ada-Borup-West advanced in the winners bracket of the Section 8A West baseball tournament Friday with a 8-4 victory over Red Lake County in Fertile.
The Cougars started quickly with five first inning runs. Two came in on an Austin McCraven triple and McCraven himself came in to score on a throwing error. Later in the inning, Caspar Kritzberger singled to bring in two more runs.
Red Lake County scored a single run in the second inning, then two more in the fourth and another in the sixth to cut the ABW lead to 5-4.
Ada-Borup-West increased their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an rbi single by Ames Fassino and a two run single by Cannon Anderson. Anderson was 3 for 4 with 2 rbi.
Cameron Spaeth relieved Cougar starting pitcher McCraven in the seventh inning. Red Lake County started the seventh with a single and two walks to load the bases with no one out. But Spaeth then retired the next three batters–the last two on strikeouts–to end the game.
McCraven (4-0) got the victory, throwing 6 innings….allowing 8 hits, 4 runs (2 earned), with a walk and five strikeouts.
Ben Gullingsrud (3-3), who had blanked the Cougars 6-0 on May 20, took the loss for the Rebels. The eighth-grader allowed 7 hits over 5 innings, 5 runs, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Colin Taggart worked one inning, allowing 4 hits and 3 runs with a strikeout.
Ada-Borup-West improves to 15-4 on the season and will face Sacred Heart later Friday in Fertile.
Red Lake County is now 13-6 and the Rebels take on Northern Freeze in an elimination game later Friday in Fertile.
