Ada-Borup-West at Mahnomen-Waubun

In another classic battle the Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds came back from a 21-7 halftime deficit to get the win 22-21.  After the Thunderbirds scored on their opening possession, the Cougars answered back with a score of their own to tie the game, the defense would get a pick 6 giving the Cougars the lead, and then would score 1 more time in the 2nd quarter to take a commanding lead into the half time break.  In the 2nd half Mahnomen Waubun would come out with renewed energy scoring in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 21-14.  That would end the 3rd quarter.  Into the 4th quarter the Thunderbirds would put together a drive that would put them into a 4th and goal from the 1 yard line.  The Thunderbirds would punch it in and then would go for 2 and covert to take the lead 22-21.  From there the game got a little crazy.  The Cougars would put together a drive that would put them into a 4th and 1 with time winding down in Mahnomen Waubun territory.  The Cougars would go to the air, but the pass would fall incomplete turning the ball over to the THunderbirds with 1:47 remaining.  While trying to run the clock out Mahnomen Waubun would fumble the ball, the Cougars would pick it up and nearly score after the scoop.  After being knocked out of bounds the Cougars would have the ball on the Thunderbirds 20 yard line.  The next play would result in a 20 yard touchdown pass, but an offensive pass interference would negate the score and move the ball back making in 1st and 25.  The next play a pass down field would be intercepted by Mahnomen Waubun, and the Thunderbirds would put the game away.  Mahnomen Waubun is now 3-0 while Ada-Borup-West is now 2-1.
