VB Mahnomen-Waubun at Climax-Fisher

Mahnomen-Waubun and Climax-Fisher battled through five sets Tuesday night in Climax before the Knights won the match three sets to two.

Mahnomen-Waubun led 18-11 in the opening set, then Climax-Fisher went on a 12-4 run to go ahead 23-22.  But the Thunderbirds prevailed 27-25.

Climax-Fisher had an easier time in the next two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-15.  Then the Thunderbirds stormed back to win the fourth set 25-13 with two kills and two aces from Leah Hlubek.

Then in set five, seventh grader Brooklyn Hoffman had three kills and an ace, while Lucy Paulsrud had three kills to give the Knights a 15-8 win to take the match.

Paulsrud had 13 kills, 1.5 blocks and an ace for Climax-Fisher (7-9), with Claire Erickson adding 12 kills and 2 aces and Hoffman 9 kills, one block assist and 3 aces.

Olivea Ruschmeier and Caprina Francis each had 8 kills for Mahnomen-Waubun (5-12).  Hlubek added 3 kills and 3 aces.

Mahnomen-Waubun hosts Ada-Borup-West on Thursday night, while Climax-Fisher takes on Win-E-Mac Thursday in Fisher.
