VB Staples-Motley0 at Hawley 3 (26-24, 25-11, 25-10)

The 4th ranked (Minnesota Class AA) Hawley Nuggets served up 16 aces Tuesday as they swept Staples-Motley on Hawley’s Senior Night.

Hawley let an early 8-2 lead in the first set slip away as the Cardinals tied the set 10-10.  The Nuggets then went on a 11-2 run to go up 21-12.  Then Staples-Motley went on a run to go ahead 22-21.  Hawley went on to take the opening set 26-24.

In set two, the Nuggets served 6 aces–3 by Sella Fleming and 2 by Hannah Stotts–as they took that set 25-11.  And in the final set, a 14-2 Hawley run broke things open as the Nuggets completed the sweep 25-10.

Sophomore Katy Vetter had 13 kills and 4 aces for Hawley (19-5), with 7 kills by Ingrid Rustad and 4 kills and 5 aces by Sella Fleming.  The Nuggets won their sixth game in a row.

Staples-Motley (17-9) saw its three game winning streak end.  Livi Lorber had 8 kills for the Cardinals.

Hawley will play in a tournament Thursday in Fergus Falls to finish the regular season.  Staples-Motley now awaits the playoff pairings.
