Barnesville 46, Hawley 22

For the ninth consecutive year, Barnesville is the Section 8AA football champion after the Trojans defeated Hawley 46-22 Friday at the Fargodome.

Senior quarterback Gannon Bolgrean rushed 13 times for 76 yards and a touchdown and 2 PAT, while also returning an interception 40 yards for another Trojans TD.  Cameron Halverson rushed 15 times for 89 yards and 2 scores plus 6 PATs, and teammate Major Ness gained 81 yards on 9 carries with 2 touchdowns and 2 PAT.

Hawley senior quarterback Noah Nelson threw a 20 yard TD pass to Levi Lelm and also rushed 14 times for 41 yards…as Barnesville’s defense held the Nuggets to just 49 yards rushing.  Linkoln Midthun threw a halfback pass 61 yards to Jaxon Schenck for Hawley’s third TD.  Zach Libak and Midthun both ran for 2 PATs for Hawley.  Charlie Steer also had 2 interceptions for the Nuggets.

Barnesville led 8-0 after one quarter, 24-0 at halftime, and 32-8 after three quarters.

Barnesville had 48 yards passing and 365 rushing, while Hawley had 49 yards on the ground and 216 in the air.

Barnesville (11-0) advances to next week’s AA quarterfinals at either St. Cloud Tech on Thursday or Brainerd on Friday against an opponent to be determined.

Hawley’s season ends with a 7-4 record.
