Recap

The Thompson Girls Basketball team held their home opener Monday night against the defending ND Division B State Champions, May-Port-C-G. Unfortunately for the Patriots, they couldn’t keep the momentum from their home opening win going, falling to the Tommies, 61-34.

Thompson jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first five minutes and looked primed to roll to the victory. The Patriots bounced back, outscoring Thompson the rest of the half, 23-18. That cut the Tommie ten-point lead in half after two quarters. With a 30-25 lead, Thompson seized the moment out of the break, scoring ten of the first eleven points and setting the tone for the second half. The Tommie defense clamped down on the Patriots in the second half, not allowing a single field goal inside the three-point line and just nine points total.

Kya Hurst and Addison Sage combined for 41 of Thompson’s 61 points. Jordyn Carpenter once again led the Patriots, with a dozen. Hudson Zerface and Kiaza Carlson added ten and eight points respectively in the setback. With the win, the Tommies move to 4-1 while the loss puts the Patriots at 2-2. Thompson has the rest of the week to prepare for a tough Division A Region Two clash with Carrington on Friday. The Patriots will look to bounce back with their Mayville home opener on Thursday against Cavalier.
