Recap

The Central Cass Squirrels defeated the Lisbon Broncos in their home opener on Thursday with a final score of 62-17.

The Central Cass full court pressure proved too much for the Broncos to handle with Avah Cotton and Kenley Haug racking up steals and points off turnovers. The 8th grader Haug finished tied for the team lead with 13 points and used her playmaking ability to create excellent shots for her teammates. Haug’s teammate Freshman Jaci Verkuehlen (Ver-kee-len) also provided a spark off head coach Jay Bachman’s bench with 13 points of her own in a balanced team effort that put 10 different Squirrels in the scoring column.

The Broncos struggled to find offense all game, allowing a 21-0 run in the second quarter, but found more consistent looks in the second half where Brynn Wiltse scored 9 of her 11 points to lead Lisbon.

Lisbon fell to 0-3 and look to rebound against Northern Cass at home on December 16th.

Central Cass improved to 2-0 and settles into the second of a five game homestand December 14th against Langdon Area-Munich.
