Wadena-Deer Creek at Pillager

The seventh-ranked Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines were clicking as they swept Pillager in the team’s Park Region Conference Opener. Set scores were 25-12, 25-7, 25-9.

Set one started with some back and forth scoring, but WDC methodically pulled away. The Wolverines wasted no time taking control of the second set as Pillager struggled to come up with an offensive attack. Pillager started strong in set three with an early lead, only to have WDC go on a 14-1 run to separate themselves and close out the match.

Sophomore sensation Payton Gravelle led the charge for the Wolverines with 16 kills. Addyson Gravelle tallied 31 assists and Jenna Dykhoff scored three aces. Kalyn Karppinen had three kills for Pillager and Emma Barrett had four assists and a block.

Wadena-Deer Creek is now 4-0 to start the year and they are 11-0 versus Pillager since moving to the Park Region Conference in 2015. Pillager is 3-5.
