Norman County Commission Hears Cannabis Business Ordinance

ADA, MN—Minnesota law requires each county to have in place a policy on cannabis oriented businesses by January 1st.  On Monday, the Norman County Commission held its second reading of its proposed ordinance.  State law requires that each county have at least one cannabis business. Norman County Emergency Management Director Garry Johanson says Norman County will have no more than three such businesses.

Johanson says under the proposed ordinance, the County will charge a $250 application fee for a cannabis business and Norman County law enforcement will conduct compliance checks on these businesses…just as they do for businesses that sell alcohol.       

People in favor of marijuana use and against it spoke at Monday’s hearing.  Kurt Aho of Halstad says he doesn’t like the proposed ordinance.

But Eric McPherson of Shelly supports legalized cannabis sales.

The Norman County Commission passed the proposed ordinance 6-0.  The full County Commission will vote on the cannabis ordinance at its November 21 meeting.
