Swanville at Pine River-Backus

The Pine River-Backus Tigers upset top seeded Swanville to take the 5A East Subsection crown and keep their 2024 season rolling into the section championship game.

The first set was a battle from start to finish as it had 14 ties and 7 lead changes. The biggest lead was five with PRB up 10-5. PRB lost set point at 24-23 as Swanville tied it, but the Tigers grabbed back-to-back points to close out the thrilling first game 26-24.

PRB never trailed in set two. After several ties to start, as the set was 7-7, PRB used a 12-4 run to distance themselves to a 19-11 advantage. Swanville would get as close to six but the Tigers kept the cushion and closed the set 25-18.

Set three mirrored set one as it had ten ties and five lead changes. PRB lead 16-12 but the Bulldogs charged back and tied the set at 20. The more experienced PRB team buckled down with fewer mistakes and scored five of the last seven points to clinch the win 25-22.
