Other Local Minnesota Races
Looking at other races in Minnesota, there was a close race for mayor of Twin Valley. Incumbent Michael Bolton defeated Councilman Mark Askelson 152 votes to 144 with Mark Altenburg getting 18 votes.
The Twin Valley City Council election had five candidates for two seats. Incumbent Tracy Christianson received 187 votes, with Harold Allrich in second place with 145. Leah Lee was third with 114 votes, followed by Sarah Berquam and Darell Skoy.
Meanwhile in Mahnomen, there were 205 write-in votes for mayor…because no candidate filed to run for the office. Those votes will be counted and examined before a winner is declared. And both incumbent candidates for Mahnomen City Council were re-elected: Kelly Phillips with 309 votes and Duane Schouveiller with 230 compared to 124 for Hunter Boudreau.
In Hawley, Sean Mork was re-elected mayor as he defeated Kara Gillespie 59.6 percent to 39 and a half percent.
In the Mahnomen School Board election, there were nine candidates for three positions. Traci Turner, Craig Bower and Kimberly Scott-Niesen were the top three getting votes.
Over in Fertile-Beltrami there were seven candidates for three positions on the school board. The top three were April Grunhovd, incumbent Nathan Rasch and Tia Gullickson.
