Most Feared MN Winter Roads

January 18, 2025 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

Three thousand drivers were recently surveyed about what they believe are the most dangerous roads to drive in winter.  Five Minnesota roads were in that survey.  Interstate 94 was ranked the 26th most dangerous road in the US…because of heavy traffic and the fact that winter weather makes hazards worse…leading to frequent accidents and multi-car pileups, especially in areas prone to black ice.  US Highway 12 from Ortonville to Wayzata is ranked 41st most dangerous. US Highway 14 through southern Minnesota is ranked 61st with some intersections having accident rates six times the state average.  US Highway 10 comes in at number 109 on the most dangerous list, especially at night.  Truckers and late night drivers face higher risks due to slick roads and reduced visibility.  And US Highway 169 in Scott County in the south Twin Cities metro area ranks at 133rd most dangerous because of higher population, heavy traffic and winter weather.
