Arrowhead Ultra 135…Day One At The Gateway Check In
Ken Kreuger (Kreeger), co director of the Arrowhead Ultra 135, on an update on the 135
mile race which began this Monday morning at 7:00 am at Kerry Park Arena in
International Falls, and closed the first station of the race on Monday night, January 27, at 9:00 pm at the
Gateway store in Kabetogema, MN.
Patrick Hogden from Hancock Michigan, aged 22 in the lead, biking. Other bikers taking
the first spots in the current race are Ryan Hargo, from Fargo ND age 53, Trenton
Raygor, Minneapolis MN age 46 , Kate Coward also from Minneapolis MN, and
rounding out the top five so far, also on bike Brian Behrendt, from Mahtomedi MN. Local
favorite, hailing from International Falls, on foot is Mike Lessard, age 60 making it to the
Gateway Checkpoint , 35.45 miles from the start point , in time, to continue on to stretch
two of the race, which will be Mel Georges Resort, 70 miles from the start of the race.
Checkpoint cutoff for Mel Georges is 1pm Tuesday.
Cold temperatures are desired for this race to make it challenging and keep the racers
returning for the extreme challenge.

Meeting up with local favorite Mike Lessard, travelling by foot for the race, and at the
Gateway Checkpoint getting a quick bite to eat, Mike’s take on the conditions on the
first leg of the race.
