Fertile City Council Meets
FERTILE, MN—The Fertile City Council heard Monday about a proposal to resurface Highway 32 through downtown. Fertile Mayor Brian Nephew says this project has been on the drawing board for some time.
The Fertile City Council didn’t take any action on that report. In other business, the Council approved hiring another attorney.
According to her law firm, Whitmore currently serves as city attorney for Mankato, Marshall, Wells, West St. Paul and Olivia. It was suggested that to accommodate Whitemore’s schedule, future Fertile City Council meetings would need to be moved to the third Monday of each month. Currently, the Fertile City Council meets on the second Monday of each month. Nephew says that change would not apply to the June Fertile City Council meeting.
There was also discussion about making Assistant City Administrator Stacy Erickson a full-time employee. City Administrator Lisa Liden told the Council that Erickson has been working 40 hours a week for several months, yet doesn’t receive insurance and benefits. After a motion to have the City’s personnel committee look at the request failed, the Council voted to give Erickson temporary full-time status until the end of the calendar year.
