Hillsboro/Central Valley 10, MayPort-CG 1 Region 2 Baseball
Bryce Miller slugged a 3-run homer and Tyson Sundby pitched a 3-hitter as Hillsboro/Central Valley defeated MayPort-CG 10-1 Monday in an elimination game in the North Dakota Class B Region 2 baseball tournament at Mayville State University.
MayPort-CG opened the scoring in the first inning on a rbi single by Sawyer McGillis. HCV tied it on a run-scoring hit by Riley Richter.
The Burros took the lead in the second when Austin Cotton singled, was sacrificed to second, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to make it 2-1.
The score stayed 2-1 until the fifth inning, when Chase Haffley reached second on an error, Richter walked, both advanced on a wild pitch. Alexander Dufner hit a sacrifice fly to score Haffley to make it 3-1. Then Richter scored on a wild pitch to give the Burros a 4-1 lead.
HCV put the game away in the sixth inning as Bryce Miller hit a 3-run homer to make it 7-1. Later in the inning, Richter walked, Dufner was hit by a pitch, Cotton singled to drive in a run, then Elijah Smallbeck singled to bring in 2 more runs and give the Burros a 10-1 lead.
Sundby (1-1) threw a complete game 3-hitter. He walked 6 and struck out 4. No Burro had more than one hit. Tyson Leshuk and Riley Richter scored 2 runs apiece.
Connor Dockter took the loss for MayPort-CG (3-12). In 3 innings, he allowed 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 walks with no strikeouts. Kaden Hogfuss pitched the final 3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 8 runs (7 earned), with 3 walks and a strikeout. Sawyer McGillis went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Patriots with a run batted in.
Hillsboro/Central Valley will play top seed Thompson in the double elimination phase of the Region 2 tournament.
