Ada A’s 5,  Fosston Trash Pandas 2

Ethan Opsahl homered and struck out 7 consecutive Fosston hitters as the Ada A’s earned their first victory of the season Wednesday, 5-2 over the Trash Pandas at Tony Sipe Field in Ada.

The A’s took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Beau Fetting sacrifice fly.  Ada starting pitcher Jake Osowski backed that up with 5 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts.

Fosston greeted relief pitcher Opsahl in the sixth inning with three hits and grabbed the lead on Carsen Boushee’s rbi double and Aaron Norland’s run scoring single to put the Trash Pandas in front 2-1.

Then in the bottom of the sixth, the A’s responded with singles by Fetting and Kenny Erickson, followed by a home run to center field by Sunny Resnick to put Ada in front 4-2.  The next batter, Opsahl, followed with a solo shot to right to make the score 5-2.

On the mound, Opsahl struck out 7 consecutive Trash Pandas from the sixth through eighth innings.  Then in the top of the ninth, Fosston’s first two batters singled.  Then after two were out, a walk loaded the bases.  Opsahl then struck out pinch-hitter Kobe Hamre to end the game.

Opsahl (1-0) got the victory, going 4 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, one walk and 9 strikeouts.

Cullen Norland took the loss for Fosston.  In 5 innings, he allowed 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks with 5 strikeouts.  Carsen Bushee threw 4 scoreless innings, allowing 0 hits or runs with one walk.

The A’s (1-1) will travel to Hinckley Saturday to take on Forest Lake.

Fosston (1-4) hosts the Sabin Mets on Sunday.
