Ada A’s 14, Midway 13 (8 innings)
Beau Jorgensen had 4 hits, including a 2-run single in the eighth inning that brought in the winning runs as the Ada A’s came back from an 11-2 deficit to defeat Midway 14-13 Saturday at Tony Sipe Field in Ada.
Jorgensen went 4 for 5 at the plate with 4 runs batted in. He was also the winning pitcher, throwing 4 and one-third innings in relief. The right-hander allowed 8 hits, 6 runs (2 earned) with no walks, a hit batter and one strikeout.
Ada opened the scoring with 2 first inning runs. But Midway responded with 3 in the second inning, 4 in the fourth and 4 in the fifth to go ahead 11-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, the A’s rallied to score 5 times, with Austin McCraven’s 2-run single the big hit of the frame. Then in the sixth, Ada scored 5 more to take a 12-11 lead. Kenny Erickson’s rbi single putting the A’s in front.
With this being a 7 inning game, the Midway Snurdbirds needed to get a run quickly…and they did on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Eischens. That tied the score at 12 and forced extra baseball.
In the eighth inning, DJ Reichling doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on Preston Riewer’s sacrifice fly to put Midway ahead 13-12. In the bottom of the eighth, the A’s got three walks to load the bases with one out. Then Jorgensen delivered a 2 run single to win the game for the A’s.
Jake Osowski was 3 for 4 with a run batted in for Ada, while McCraven was 1 for 3 with 2 rbi and 2 runs scored.
Ethan Eischens was 1 for 3 with 5 rbi for Midway, including a 3 run homer in the fifth inning. Rory Drewes was 2 for 4 with 3 rbi and 3 runs scored. Ty Karger took the loss for the Snurdbirds, allowing just one hit in an inning and a third, but walked 5 to go with 4 strikeouts and allowed 2 runs.
Midway would go on to defeat Roseau 7-1 in the next game played at Ada on Saturday.
