Right-hander Jake Osowski struck out 16 batters as the Ada A’s defeated the Hawley Hawks 2-1 Wednesday at Tony Sipe Field in Ada.
Osowski pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits, one run and 4 walks, as the A’s improve to 5-5 on the season.
All of the game’s runs came in the fourth inning. Hawley got on the board when Matt Pearson doubled in Oakley Dubord. The A’s went ahead in their half when Nick Johnson singled and Kenny Erickson walked to start the inning. After the next two batters struck out, Braiden Fetting singled to bring in Johnson with the tying run and Erickson went to third. Erickson scored on a wild pitch to give the A’s a lead they wouldn’t give up.
Hawley got two men on with two out in the top of the ninth, but Ethan Opsahl came in from the bullpen to get a strike out and end the game.
Pearson took the loss for Hawley (2-7-1). The left-hander went 5 innings, allowed 3 hits, 2 runs, 7 walks and a wild pitch with 6 strikeouts. Gavin Kleevgaard threw 3 innings, with 2 hits allowed, one walk and 3 strikeouts.
Hawley’s Oakley Dubord was the only player for either team with more than one hit, going 2 for 4.
The A’s are now off until July 1, when they host the Bemidji Blue Ox.
