The arrival of summer is a signal that the Minnesota boating season has arrived, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is reminding boaters to drive responsibly. Sgt. Chet Carlson of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department says his office will be around enforcing Minnesota boating safety laws.

Carlson says Polk County’s lakes are some of the busiest locations in the county during the summer, and for this reason he reminds people to be extra cautious, and follow the state’s lifejacket laws.

Carlson says there are many other regulations that boaters should keep in mind, including some that aren’t as well known.

Finally, Carlson reminds people to drive sober, as the drunk driving rules are the same for boats, as they are regular vehicles.
