“Tom Lano Court”: Fosston Honors Beloved Voice of Local Sports
Fosston, MN — In a moment of well-earned recognition for a career spent behind the microphone, Fosston High School has officially voted to name its gymnasium court “Tom Lano Court,” honoring longtime radio broadcaster Tom Lano, whose voice has become synonymous with high school sports in northwest Minnesota and beyond.
The announcement was made public during a live in-studio conversation on KKCQ Radio Thursday morning — with Superintendent Todd Selk proudly sharing the news with listeners:
While Tom Lano has long been associated with the Fosston Greyhounds, his voice has reached far beyond the Fosston school district. Over the years, he’s called games and events for schools throughout the region — including Bagley, Win-E-Mac, and many others — becoming a familiar and trusted presence in homes, gyms, and cars across the listening area.
Since 1990 alone, Tom has broadcast over 5,700 games — and over 7,000 total in his remarkable career. Through every season and every school, his steady voice, deep passion, and years of dedication have helped shape the fabric of local sports. Fosston School Activities Director Ryan Hanlon shares his thoughts on Tom’s incredible legacy.
The official naming of Tom Lano Court is more than a tribute to his service — it’s a celebration of the way he connects people to their teams, their schools, and each other. Parents at work, grandparents miles away, and alumni near and far have all experienced Greyhound athletics through Tom’s words.
Soon, the court where so many of those games took place will bear his name and legacy. “Tom Lano Court” will be officially dedicated during the upcoming school year, giving friends, former athletes, and community members a chance to celebrate the man who has brought the game to life for so many years.
