Strand named 2025 National Volleyball Coach of the Year
Thompson volleyball coach Lisa Strand was named the National Coach of the Year in volleyball at the 2025 National High School Athletic Association Convention earlier this week in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Strand has spent her entire 36-year coaching career at Thompson, compiling an overall record of 1,072 wins and 275 losses, with five state championships and 19 regional titles.
Each state within the National High School Athletic Association can select a coach in their respective sport to be nominated. Eight finalists are selected and a national board determines who wins the award.
Thompson will compete in Division A this coming fall with the new three-division system in North Dakota for volleyball. The Tommies finished 4th place at the State Class B Volleyball Tournament last year.
