Rylan Penas rushed 10 times for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns and Thompson’s defense held Turtle Mountain to 65 yards total offense as the Tommies blanked the Braves 52-0 Friday night in Thompson.

Penas scored on bursts of 72 and 63 yards in the first half as Thompson took a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and led 46-0 at halftime.  The second half was played in running time.

Tommies quarterback Gavin Oster ran for 2 first half touchdowns and threw to Joe Taylor for another, while safety Jeromy Tyce returned an interception 43 yards for another first half score.  The first half scoring ended when Dax Avdem scored on an 18 yard run near the end of the first half.  You might remember Avdem had a medical emergency during Thompson’s run in the North Dakota American Legion State tournament and had to be taken to the hospital.

The only second half touchdown came on a 9 yard run by Grady Hurst in the fourth quarter.

Oster completed 2 of 5 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown, while rushing 4 times for 46 yards and 2 scores.

Thompson’s defense held Turtle Mountain to 4 first downs, 11 yards rushing and 54 yards passing.  The Tommies also blocked a punt and intercepted 2 passes (Jack Krogstad picked off a pass in the second half, besides Tyce’s pick six).

Thompson had 14 first downs, 101 yards passing and 297 yards rushing.   The Tommies were penalized 4 times for 30 yards, while Turtle Mountain had 2 for 10 yards.

Thompson (2-1, 1-0 in Region 2) plays at Park River Area next Friday, while Turtle Mountain (0-3, 0-1) travels to top-ranked Langdon Area-Munich.
