The Fosston Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 but won the next three sets to defeat Mahnomen/Waubun 3-1 Thursday night in Fosston. Ava Hayes led the Greyhound attack with 12 kills as Fosston improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Pine To Prairie Conference. Hatty Quam and Brielle Duppong each added 7 kills and Emma Howard had 6 kills for Fosston. Nenookaasi Poitra, Caprina Francis and Isabella Schlick each recorded 6 kills for Mahnomen/Waubun as the Thunderbirds fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Thunderbirds closed the first set on a 6-1 run to win 25-15 but the Greyhounds would win the next three sets 25-16, 25-19 & 25-11. The Greyhounds had 14 service aces while Mahnomen/Waubun had 4 aces at the service line. Miley Hove had 4 service aces for Fosston while Alexis Illies and Brielle Duppong each had 3 service aces for the Greyhounds. Fosston won the “B” Squad match 2-0 (25-23 & 25-23) and Fosston won the “C” Squad match 2-0 (25-18 & 25-12). The Greyhounds will play in the Ruth Hayden Tournament of Roses in Ada on Saturday, September 6th while the Thunderbirds will return to action on Tuesday, September 9th when they host the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears (101.5 FM & Your Live Event)
