Clearbrook, MN – The Red Lake Falls Eagles Volleyball Team opened their 2025 season in style, sweeping the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-21) to secure their first win of the year.

In the opening set, Red Lake Falls held a slim 5-4 advantage before a decisive 9-1 run stretched the lead to 14-5. From there, the Eagles controlled the pace, aided in part by five service errors from the Bears, and closed out the set 25-18.

Set two was all Eagles. After building an early 9-4 lead on a 5-0 surge, Red Lake Falls forced a Bears timeout. The momentum carried over as the Eagles extended the margin to 11-4 and never looked back, cruising to a 25-13 victory to go up 2-0 in the match.

The third set brought the most drama of the night, featuring four ties and four lead changes. Clearbrook-Gonvick rallied to even the score at 15-15, but Red Lake Falls responded with a 6-1 run to pull ahead 21-16. The Eagles held firm the rest of the way, taking the set 25-21 and sealing the 3-0 sweep.

With the win, Red Lake Falls improves to 1-0 and extends its winning streak against Clearbrook-Gonvick to three matches dating back to last season. The Eagles return home Thursday to host Fertile-Beltrami at 1:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Clearbrook-Gonvick falls to 0-1 and will look to bounce back Thursday on the road at Win-E-Mac, with first serve scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and pregame coverage starting at 2:00 on 96.7 FM KKCQ.
