Fire Prevention Week: Combine Fires
Combine harvesters save farmers a lot of time in the field during harvest season. But combines can also cause fires. Halstad Fire Chief Gaylord Christianson talks about combine fires.
Ada Fire Chief Glen Visser says dry conditions, like what we’ve had this year, raise the possibility of a combine fire spreading.
It’s recommended that farmers use a pressure washer to remove caked-on oil, grease and crop residue in order to lower the risk of a combine fire. If a combine does catch fire, turn off the engine and have water and a fire extinguisher on hand to keep the fire from spreading.
