Logan Giese rushed for 2 touchdowns and intercepted a Polk County West pass late in the game to give Park Christian a 14-6 victory over PCW in the Section 8A football quarterfinals Tuesday in Moorhead.
After a scoreless first quarter, Park Christian got on the board in the second quarter when Giese scored on an 8 yard run. The extra point kick gave the Falcons a 7-0 lead with 6:49 left in the half. That was the halftime score.
The Thunder took the second half kickoff and drove 62 yards in 13 plays, taking 9:08 off the clock. Dylan Larson scored on a 5 yard run to cut the Park Christian lead to 7-6. Polk County West tried for a 2 point conversion to take the lead. But the Thunder couldn’t run it in and trailed 7-6 after 3 quarters.
Logan Giese would score his second touchdown of the day on a 4 yard run to make it 14-6 with 5:47 to play, And with PCW driving late in the game, Giese intercepted a Micah Zavoral pass with just over 3 minutes to play to put the Falcons into the Section 8A semifinals.
PCW had 11 first downs. Quarterback Micah Zavoral was 3 for 11 passing for 14 yards with 2 interceptions. Jace Motl (8 yards), Ti Davis (4 yards) and Dylan Larson (2 yards) had one catch apiece. Motl led the Thunder ground game with 28 yards on 12 carries. Zavoral ran 3 times for 26 yards; Reez Eckherdt 7 carries for 23; Larson 5 for 18 and a TD; Jaycer Davis one carry for 17 and Ti Davis 15 yards on 6 carries. In all, the Thunder had 177 yards of total offense and 4 penalties for 35 yards.
Park Christian had 16 first downs. Quarterback Jayden Hanson completed 21 of 26 passes for 219 yards. Gavin Giese caught 7 passes for 98 yards; Logan Giese caught 4 for 36 yards; Freddy Leistikow had 3 grabs for 35 yards. Logan Giese ran 17 times for 39 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Falcon ground game. In all, Park Christian had 278 yards total offense and 5 penalties for 50 yards.
Park Christian (7-2) will play at Red Lake County Saturday at 2pm. Polk County West finished the season with a 3-6 record.
