Greta Kuznia scored 33 points, including going 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the second half, as Kittson County Central rallied from a 6 point halftime deficit to defeat Climax-Fisher 76-71 Tuesday night in Climax.
The Bearcats (2-0) led 13-5 early, then Climax-Fisher rallied to lead 41-29 late in the half, before KCC cut the gap to 43-37 at halftime. In the second half, the Bearcats got off to a 17-4 start to take a lead they never lost. The Knights got to within 3 points late in the game at 72-69…then Kuznia made both free throws to stretch the lead to 5 with 27.2 seconds to play.
Kuznia made 5 three point baskets and hit 8 of 12 free throws as part of her 33 point game. Kaydence White added 22 for KCC.
Peyton Hoffman, playing her first basketball game after missing last season due to injury, scored 32 points for the Knights (0-1). Lucy Paulsrud added 22 points, including 3 three pointers.
Climax-Fisher was 8 of 13 from the free throw line with 32 rebounds (11 offensive), and the Knights committed 20 turnovers.
KCC was 13 of 20 at the foul line, with 34 rebounds (9 offensive) and 18 turnovers.
KCC hosts Badger-Greenbush-Middle River Monday night in Lancaster. Climax-Fisher plays at Blackduck Monday night.
Kittson County Central won the JV game 36-21 and the C squad game 24-8.
