Mayville Grain Elevator Fire
MAYVILLE, ND— A massive grain elevator fire that started shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday in Mayville is now contained, with the structure collapsing roughly an hour after the blaze began.
Traill County Sheriff Steve Hunt says the elevator came down around 9 p.m., with embers floating eastward from the scene.
Fire Chief Rich Hart posted on the Mayville Fire Department’s Facebook page that the fire has been contained and other departments are being dismissed.
“We greatly appreciate all of their help,” Hart said in the social media post. “We will keep 2nd Ave blocked off most likely for a couple days. Please just refrain from going near the scene.”
Hart warned that crews will continue to monitor the scene as the grain elevator “will smolder for a few days.”
Sheriff Hunt said neighboring houses lost power during the incident, but electricity has since been restored to the area.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
