Recap

Erskine, MN — The Goodridge/Grygla Chargers Girls Basketball Team picked up their first win of the young season Monday night, defeating the Win-E-Mac Patriots 40-30.

Both teams struggled offensively throughout the evening. After an early 5-5 tie, Win-E-Mac pieced together an 8-0 run to take a 13-5 advantage in the first half. However, the Patriots stalled at 13 points as Goodridge/Grygla tightened their defensive pressure and responded with an identical 8-0 run to pull even late in the half. The Chargers closed the frame on a 5-0 burst to take a 20-18 lead into halftime.

The second half continued the trend of limited scoring. Neither team found the basket until the 13:23 mark, when the Chargers extended their lead to 22-18. Win-E-Mac didn’t score their first bucket of the half until 10:10 remained, staying within reach at 24-20. But Goodridge/Grygla’s defense ultimately dictated the outcome, holding the Patriots to just 12 second-half points. The Chargers added another 20 in the final stanza, securing the 40-30 victory.

With the win, Goodridge/Grygla improves to 2-1 and will travel to Red Lake on Thursday. Win-E-Mac falls to 2-1 and turns around quickly with a matchup against Fertile-Beltrami on Tuesday.
