Climax-Fisher at Hillsboro-Central Valley
Recap
The Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros came out of the gate strong in their season opener and held on down the stretch to defeat the Climax-Fisher Knights 57-52. The Burros defense forced turnovers and created transition opportunities early and kept the Knights from getting on to the scoreboard, holding them to one made field goal in the first quarter for a 20-2 lead. The second quarter was much the same early as the Burros went up 41-7 with just under three minutes remaining in the first half. Coming out of a timeout the Knights flipped the script with their defense being the one to force turnovers and create offensive chances to outscore the Burros 30-6 over the final minutes of the first half through the end of the third quarter and went into the fourth trailing 47-37. The Knights continued to push into the lead, trimming it to six points before a Burro three-pointer extended it back out. The Knights defense again pressured their way into offensive chances and was down four points with 1:17 to play. A single made free throw by the Burros was all either team could manage in the last minute as the shots didn’t fall for the Knights and the Burros opened their season with a victory 57-52.
Hillsboro/Central Valley (1-0) will travel to Central Cass on Thursday night. Climax-Fisher (1-2) will play their third road game of the week on Friday as they travel to Rothsay.
