North Dakota Division B State Volleyball Quarterfinal Recap

Medina-Pingree/Buchanan 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22) over Surrey

Medina-Pingree/Buchanan is heading to the semifinal round in the North Dakota State Volleyball Tournament for the second straight year.

Destiny Opp finished with 22 kills and Brynn Sorenson add 19 kills for the Thunder. Medina-Pingree/Buchanan will play in the State B semifinals on Friday morning at 9 against Our Redeemer’s. You can listen to the match on yourliveevent.com.

Mekenzie Neighbors and Ava Keller finished with 12 kills apiece for Surrey. The Mustangs head to the consolation semifinals on Friday night in their first state tournament appearance in program history.

Our Redeemer’s 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18) over Linton-HMB

The #6 seed Our Redeemer’s Knights pulled off the first upset at the State Tournament, defeating #3 seed Linton-HMB 3-1 on Thursday afternoon. The Knights will play #2 seed Medina-Pingree/Buchanan in the semifinals Friday at 9:00 am. You can listen to that match on yourliveevent.com. The Lions will play Surrey at 5:00 p.m. in the consolation bracket.

Linton-HMB was lead by Macy Hase and Bobbie Janczewski who each had 13 Kills, and Emmrey Baumgartner having 12. Madisyn Sauter had 43 assists, while Makiah Ryckman had 25 digs for the Lions. 

Our Redeemer’s had 3 players with double digit kills, Kadyn Braun had 16, Brooklyn Roedocker with 13, and Noel Pankratz had 12. Lauren Strom had 5 blocks for the Kinghts, Grace Olson led the team in assists with 46, and Ellie Streyle let the team with 26 digs and 3 access. 

Langdon Area-Munich 3-2 (25-20, 25-10, 22-25, 24-26, 15-6) Central McLean

Langdon Area-Munich held off Central McLean for a State B semifinal round appearance on Thursday afternoon.

The defending champ in Langdon Area-Munich responded in the 5th set taking the first 9 points against the Cougars.

Hilrey Haaven finished with 28 kills as the Cardinals will play in the B semifinals against the winner of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier or Flasher on Friday at 11 a.m.

Morgan Synder finished with 21 kills for Central McLean. The Cougars head to the consolation semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m.

Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) Flasher

Edgely/Kulm/Montpelier advances to the state semifinals following a straight set victory over the Flasher Bulldogs. The Rebels had a run of 6 or more points in each set to give them the advantage and cruse to victory. EKM will play top seeded Langdon Area-Munich in the second semifinal match at 11:00 a.m. on Friday on yourliveevent.com.

The Rebels were led by Kalyn Klusmann’s 9 kills and a team high 3 blocks. While Jazmyn Zaun, Elli Lloyd, and Betsy Huber had 6 kills apiece, with help from Jr. setter Mazie Tjernlund’s 29 assists.

For the Bulldogs, Chaskee Schmidt led Flasher with 7 kills, while Jocelyn Rossow had 16 assists and 19 digs. Flasher will play Central McLean Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the consolation Semifinals.
